Some Of Our Work

Here are a few projects that we’ve recently completed. We do a fair amount of projects for ad agencies, but we’re not able to claim those works as our own. We also do a bit of back-end development and consulting, but those projects don’t make for very pretty pictures.

Honey Hill Farms

www.thehoneyhillfarms.com

What was needed:

Honey Hill Farms manufactures, markets and distributes non-fat, low-fat and no sugar added frozen yogurts and sorbets in a number of wild and unique flavors—such as red velvet cupcake and rocky road—to frozen dessert shops, restaurants, hospitals and schools around the globe. They wanted a richer website that incorporated the Honey Hill Farms identity into the design of the site. They also wanted to feature new and seasonal flavors as well as a way to manage the list of flavors and nutritional information.

How we did it:

The Honey Hill Farms identity captures a familiar, distinctly American scene of a 19th century dairy barn, fronted by plains of grass and blue skies. Our vision was to build on that scene while invoking themes of craftsmanship. We designed a masthead incorporating imagery from the logo and created a simple and intuitive information architecture to quickly get visitors to the information they need. For the site's landing page, we designed a rotating billboard to highlight new and seasonal flavors, as well as a few callouts to draw attention to specific content.

Sugar Creek Foods

www.sugarcreekfoodsinc.com

What was needed:

Sugar Creek Foods International manufactures and private labels frozen dessert mixes and potato flavor mixes, and also does custom formulation and research and development for the food industry. They also own and operate the Honey Hill Farms brand of frozen yogurts and sorbets. Sugar Creek Foods, having a 65 year history, has a unique story. They wanted to tell that story on their new website as well as highlight their very diverse set of services.

How we did it:

Sugar Creek Foods has a clean and simple identity that's been around for over 65 years. We wanted to retain the essence of their identity, but set it in a more modern, minimalist design. We incorporated magazine-like layouts to content pages to create architectural interest by using the content itself.

What Makes a Great Frozen Yogurt?

thehoneyhillfarms.com/what-makes-a-great-frozen-yogurt

What was needed:

After working with Sugar Creek Foods International to design and develop their new Honey Hill Farms website, we felt there was more to their story and it needed to be told with video. The owners, Scott and Bud, agreed, and we set out to give the Honey Hill Farms brand a face and a voice to match their brand revitalization.

How we did it:

We spent three days on location in Russellville, Arkansas, exploring the Sugar Creek Foods plants, talking to their employees, and assembling a story of what makes Honey Hill Farms frozen yogurt unique. The technical answer is their unique plant which allows them to use bulky flavoring systems instead of only flavor extracts. The real answer is quite simply, the people.

RSR Group Online Catalog

www.rsrgroup.com/catalog

What was needed:

For over 30 years, RSR Group has been a leading distributor in the shooting sports industry. RSR Group came to us with a technology problem—their online catalog was being served by a middle-tier client communicating with their back-office COBOL systems. The middle-tier was unreliable and frequently locked up their web servers taking their online catalog of 20,000+ items offline. They needed a solution to fix their catalog, as well as a design refresh.

How we did it:

To solve the catalog's technical problem, we built a MySQL database using a mix of flat and relational models to boost the performance of searching through 20,000+ items. We developed data integrations to populate the catalog periodically throughout the day. On the design side, we created a dynamic filtering system to allow the user to refine the search results by different product attributes.

Note: We only worked on the catalog portion of the site, not the header/footer or rest of the site.

What was needed:

Scenely.com is a venture that we started with a couple of colleagues. The concept was simple—build an easy to use video editing service, allowing the customer to choose the type of video (birthday party, family vacation, etc.), add their own titles, choose a theme, select genres of music and checkout. Once the video was edited, allow the customer to view, purchase DVDs or share their video on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter.

How we did it:

We started from nothing and built everything. We created a simple, smooth experience for customers with a streamlined customization and checkout process using Authorize.net API for credit card processing. From a design perspective, each section's landing page takes on its own motif. The site integrates with SugarCRM on the backend for customer and production management.

Scenely.com - How It Works

scenely.com/how-it-works

What was needed:

Scenely.com needed a simple video to explain how the service worked.

How we did it:

We came up with the concept to create an organic animation with a stop-motion feel without using stop motion techniques. Because Scenely deals with capturing and preserving memories, we created a number of scrapbook-like props to help tell the story, as well as enforce the idea that Scenely uses humans to edit videos, not computer algorithms.

Crush Chameleon Ash Kit

www.crushdrum.com/media

What was needed:

After securing an endorsement from Crush Drums, Matt Brown, the drummer for the band 10 Years, was asked to produce a video about his new Crush drum kit that would be featured on the Crush Drums website.

How we did it:

We spent a day on location at David Brown Sound Studios shooting interviews and performance segments with Matt to show off Crush Drums' new Crush Chameleon Ash Kit. The sound was the most important piece of this production. We had to make sure the kit sounded as good as possible without using studio tricks.

Matt Brown Drummer

www.mattbrowndrummer.com

What was needed:

Matt Brown is a Drummer. He's also Jonathan's brother. Matt needed a simple web presence with some contact information, a short biography, videos, music tracks he's played on, a list of albums he's performed on, some touring information, and links to his endorsements. Matt is a busy professional musician and doesn't have time to keep a blog or update a website.

How we did it:

Since Matt didn't have a lot of content or a strategy to produce new content, we decided that a single page website would be perfect for the busy musician. Matt supplied us with some nice assets to incorporate into the design. We organized his content into sections and using some of his assets and rich textures, created distinct, interactive panels of content. For the audio player, we used an HTML5 player that degrades nicely to Flash for non-HTML5 compatible browsers.
